Hunter Reuteman

VueWorks Implementer/Engineering Technician

Years with R/M: 6 Years

What are some of your jobs and responsibilities at R/M? My main job is construction review technician and engineering technician. That includes inspection and going out on sites. I’m also in charge of field services inventory, making sure things on that side get covered. I work with VueWorks which is an asset management software. Additionally, I help in survey and CADD. I really do a broad array of things.

What’s the best part of your job? The best is getting to learn a bunch of different things; being able to answer questions and having a diverse range of knowledge. I’ve met a ton of interesting characters; I love meeting people.

Why did you decide to go into field work? This was definitely something I fell into, but I knew I wanted to be on this path. I used to watch old VHS tapes as a kid of people making roads. I just fell in love with those videos and that work. When this job popped up, I applied right away. My dad also owned his own construction company, so I knew the ins and outs of this type of work well.

Favorite food? I love mac and cheese! Like the Kraft blue box, horrible for you, mac and cheese. I also like my wife’s meatloaf.

The best thing you’ve learned here at R/M? There are a few things. The big thing that’s helped me is to always take risks, and don’t get comfortable. You should be continuing to grow and continue your career. An example for me was learning CADD and VueWorks; cross-training and continuing to be like a sponge to trying to learn as much as I can.

Maintain relationships; if you maintain relationships, people think of you when they have questions or when they need help with a project.

Put in the hard work; the construction industry is hard and can have vigorous hours.

Elizabeth Brown

Construction Review Technician

Years with R/M: 3 years this summer.

What are some of your jobs and responsibilities at R/M? Erosion control inspections and helping with illicit discharge inspections. I’m usually the first person out at the job site and the last person to leave when the grass grows.

What’s the best part of your job? Going outside; I’m half in the office and half in the field. The variety is great. I love getting to bop around to different job sites instead of staying on one project. I get to go everywhere.

Why did you decide to go into field work? I knew I wanted to be in engineering and something environmental. My teacher at the time suggested going for the internship with R/M. I really liked it. It fell into my lap while I was doing my degree and I’ve been here ever since.

The song most likely in your head while on a job site? I put on Pandora and I go. It could be anything. From the 80s to country.

The best thing you’ve learned here at R/M?: It doesn’t matter how small of an impact you have on a project, it can lead to something bigger. What I do is really small but it helps protect things down the line.

Steve Pease

Senior Construction Review Technician

Years with R/M: Almost 15 years.

What are some of your jobs and responsibilities at R/M? Construction review, which entails watching the sanitary and storm sewer and water main installations, and the grades and elevations of what’s going in. I also oversee the construction and rebuilding of roadways. I do that more than the others. I have a much greater background in roadbuilding from years of road building and paving. I help the design of the road projects too by writing up specifications for road building when needed.

What’s the best part of your job? The best part is being able to be outside and working with multiple people and personalities. To be out on the job sites and seeing a lot of people is fun.

Why did you decide to go into field work? The company where I previously worked and with what I was doing, I always thought it’d be fun to be on the other side of the coin for the planning or the developmental side of the project.

Favorite food? Prime rib.

The best thing you’ve learned here at R/M?: Patience. There are a lot of times that things can come up and in the heat of the moment people want decisions made right away. The things we’re dealing with it’s not a snap decision and you really need to step back and think about things really.
