We proudly partner with local colleges and technical schools to offer a variety of internships here at R/M. This year’s summer interns worked through unprecedented circumstances with dedication, tenacity, and optimism. They were also kind enough to offer some insight into their experiences in order to help others learn a little bit about what makes R/M #ThePlaceToBe.

Major:
Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering Option
Year in School:

“The internship experience at R/M was outstanding! I can't believe just how much I learned in two and a half months. I spent most of my internship as a Construction Review Technician at a developing corporate park. It was a pretty large project, so I was a little overwhelmed at first, but I definitely got to see a bit of everything when I was there, including the installation and testing of sanitary sewer, force main, and water main. I really enjoyed being on the same project for most of the summer, and by the end I really felt comfortable navigating the contract, plans, and specifications for my project.

I'm so glad that I decided to take an internship with R/M. I remember leaving my interview and having a really good feeling that it was a great place to work and would offer me a lot of valuable experience. I still totally agree with those statements! I had the opportunity to build some great relationships with the people I was working with and as I said before, I can't believe how much I learned!”

Ally Kuske
Construction Review Technician Intern

School: University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
Major: Civil engineering with an emphasis in Water Resources/Environmental
Year in School: Junior

“This internship has given me the opportunity to work on projects outside of what I’ve learned in school. I have made lasting friendships with the other interns located in Milwaukee, and I now consider myself an advanced novice in kickball thanks to the Thursday night league in Waukesha.

R/M worked with me to make sure I received beneficial experiences out in the field, surveying, and designing. They also gave me opportunities to explore what I want to focus on moving forward. The excellent mentors and CRT’s are dedicated to teaching young engineers to excel within the field. I would recommend this opportunity to anyone who is interested in Civil Engineering.”

School: University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
Major:
Civil Engineering
Year in School:
Senior

“This summer I had an amazing experience interning at R/M. I spent the majority of my time on a road reconstruction project as a Construction Review Technician. I could not have been in a more suitable location as an intern, since this project involved a variety of services including grading, paving, and installation of storm sewer and water main. Not only did I learn a lot, but I also got the satisfaction of contributing to a project not too far from where I grew up, near Lake Geneva.”

Elizabeth Brown
Erosion Control Inspection/ Construction Review Technician intern

Brown, Elizabeth.jpg

School: Gateway Technical College
Major:
Civil Engineering: Freshwater Resources
Year in School: Graduated with District Honors

“Over the past two summers interning with R/M, I spent most of my time conducting erosion control inspections for our clients. I enjoyed being exposed to multiple construction sites and being outside on a daily basis.

Since I traveled to so many construction sites, I saw the use of dynamic compaction and other unique techniques used for compacting or breaking up the ground. The staff within the office and out in the field are so willing to answer questions, and whether it was job or school related, I always got the answers that I was looking for.”
